MANILA - Even as Typhoon Karen continues pummeling the Souther Luzon area, the state weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on late Saturday morning issued the first bulletin on a new incoming storm off the eastern seaboard of Mindanao.

The bulletin was for TROPICAL STORM LAWIN {international name, HAIMA}, which was plotted around 10:00 a.m. at 1,840 KM EAST OF MINDANAO (8.6°N, 143.1°E), with estimated maximum winds, so far, of up to 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kph, moving WEST NORTHWEST at 13 kph.

This tropical cyclone is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday and will be named "LAWIN".

The next tropical cyclone advisory is to be issued at 11:00 am Sunday.
